Yes, that's what I've been trying to crochet for the past couple of months. If you're a beginner, you'll surely understand the struggles that a novice crocheter has to undergo before getting it right. Mine was no less..
My crocheting story began with one of my embroidery friends inviting me to join a group called Passionate about Crochet in Facebook. I was mesmerized by the things crocheters were coming up with. Moreover,I had some yarn lying around for years (that's what happens when one's better half goes for an official tour and he has absolutely no idea what to buy for you - but he knows that you love embroidery and he buys woolen yarn !! heh,heh!!!!)
Anyways, I had two targets - one, use up those yarn and second, better my crocheting skills. I started with granny squares using some junk yarn just to practice...
After making about 20, I pieced them together. It was time consuming but a good learning experience.
Emboldened by my granny square crocheting , I wanted to make something really really useful - I had some baby wool,just two colors and one skein each (again thanks to DH).
May be a shrug for my daughter ?? But I didn't know to read patterns. So I looked around and found a video. The tutorial was really good, but I messed up with the measurements and the shrug ended up ugly . Don't look for a pic, I am not going to post it here :)

I tried again this time using pattern for Eva's shawl . I had read in another blog about how she had converted the shawl pattern to an open shrug. I tried doing that, but did not like the looks of it and let it remain as a wrap for the little lady.
The yarn I used is probably thicker and so it did not look lacy at all. Meghna wore it for just a day and it was relegated to the darker corners of the wardrobe.
Luckily, in the same place I found this pattern for a chevron lace cardigan . I was determined to make something out of it. After a lot of reading, thinking ,calculating, frogging, I finally managed a cardigan. Phew... It took me months!!!! But here it is....
It is not without mistakes, but it is wearable [ big smile]. And today, being Children's day here in India, she has gone to school wearing this. [even bigger smile]
And thus ends the story of my crochet journey...
My next target is something like this. I love the colors used here.The tutorial for this Valance is available here. I need to get the yarn for this though. DH's purchases have been used up :)
Back to embroidery till I source the yarns...
